“This is what you get when you mix teenage hormones with zombie blood”
5-star review: “The plot is unique which I appreciated and there’s a surprising twist which I really didn’t see coming.”
To understand the generic concept of “zombie” we’ll first examine a definition.
In Haitian folklore, a zombie (Haitian Creole: zonbi, Haitian French: zombi) is an animated corpse raised by magical means, such as witchcraft. – Wiki HERE
That’s the traditional old-fashioned definition. For the sake of modern zombie novels and film, the definition has been updated a bit.
Zombies are fictional creatures, typically depicted as mindless, reanimated human corpses (sometimes animals) with a hunger for human flesh, regularly encountered in horror and fantasy themed works. Some depictions are inspired by Haitian folklore, while others, like the ones in George A. Romero’s film Night of the Living Dead, do not have that same direct connection. Zombies have a complex literary heritage, with antecedents ranging from Richard Matheson and H. P. Lovecraft to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein drawing on European folklore of the undead. The popularity of zombies in movies has led to them sometimes having been taken out of their usual element of horror and thrown into other genres, for example the comedy film Shaun of the Dead. The “zombie apocalypse” concept, in which the civilized world is brought low by a global zombie infestation, has become a staple of modern popular art. – from Wiki HERE

“Incredible action and romantic tension build-up, the plot pulls you by the nose”
In my zombie novel “My Sweet Infected” I have zombie characters with both a slow and fast stage, like some of the other modern authors of zombie novels. My zombie mythology includes a drive to infect others as in this sample.
He was curled up along the back wall of the cage. Had been for hours. Behind the bars he was safe enough from me. And I from him on this side of them. It had been planned that way. The builders had thought of everything. One, the other, or both of us could have been infected. But traditionally it was the one on the outside of the bars that was left as bait for the one on the inside. Guess who was the bait here. I was only a child when the infection swept the nation. Maybe even the world. Nothing remained of those days except distant dreams, memories of fear and confinement. Like now.
Porter hadn’t tried to attack me. Yet. That was always the first symptom. The infected had an insatiable urge to spread the disease. Just in this one room alone there had been dozens of infected that broke half the bones in their bodies trying to get either in or out between those bars. Maybe even hundreds and who would know? I didn’t know for sure if there were any other villages, or any other cages, but it made sense that this story would be about the same everywhere.
There was a loud click from behind the door. Startled, I turned, then stayed still, in case there was someone waiting with a gun. Any fast movement might be a sign of infection. For the first few days the infected seemed to be in a big hurry to spread the disease. Then they slowed down some, and it was more like a shuffling dance of death. A second click sounded, then a long thin screeching metal on metal sound vibrated through the thick concrete block wall. – My Sweet Infected – Chapter 1
My zombie mythology has two stages as I stated previously. There is a fast stage and a slow stage. Here’s a selection with a fast stage zombie.
My dad stomped out of the house leaving the door open. I peered out to see his bare back as he disappeared. Then there was heavy pounding on the door of the house beside ours. The sounds told me everything. The door swung open and he slapped the woman and pushed his way inside. Her name was lost in time.
I ran into the bedroom and saw my mom on the bed, naked and bleeding. She twitched and drooled darkly on the pillow. I screamed! – My Sweet Infected – Chapter 4
